By simply “Standing Up Straight” without proper understanding of how our body and muscles work together, we end up adopting uncomfortable and tiring postures over long periods of time.
This can lead to misaligned joints, tense muscles and poor activation of our core muscles.
Explore how poor posture control can lead to chronic pain and problems.
We often keep our chest rigid along the midline axis to support our posture. Such rigidity can cause us to lock our shoulders and neck unnecessarily. This causes repetitive stress that progressively causes joints to wear out.
We often wrongly hold the central vertical line as our axis, and excessively use our feet as the base of support. While this can withstand vertical loading forces, it is poor at handling load that comes from horizontal directions.
Over-reliance along the Central Axis often causes us to neglect the use of the muscles around the abdomen and hips, making them weak and unable to support our weight and movements.

The BalanceCore Approach to Physiotherapy starts with releasing tension, relaxing muscles and correcting joint alignments. This way, we begin to understand and feel the Control Centres of our body (the hourglass triangles in the diagram).
Instead of “Stand Up Straight”, we should learn to Stand Balanced with good posture habits. That means learning how to move in ways that don’t cause unnecessary muscle strains or tension. This way, we will gain much better control and understanding of our body.

This connects both shoulders with the body’s core region, which allows us to create powerful yet balanced movements in various directions.
The upper and lower limbs act as connections around the Motion Control Centre, allowing us to easily exert force for various actions without strain.
The Balance Control Centre holds the core region (abdomen), our hips, and the pelvis together, all acting as our body’s central pivot point.
This balances and grounds all other dynamic movements of the body, allowing us to maintain a strong centre of gravity, with our ankles serving as the base of support efficiently and painlessly.

The BalanceCore Approach to physiotherapy does more than correct pain. It teaches you easier and better ways to go about your daily life, and trains you in natural movement techniques to excel at sports, work or play.
This stage focusses first on identifying and correcting problems to create harmony within your body.
This includes:
After correcting our immediate problems, we begin re-learning and using better habits of balance control.
This includes:
Now, targeted conditioning builds powerful and efficient movement mechanics that empower our lifestyles.
We apply BalanceCore Power to:
Ensuring total effectiveness of our BalanceCore Approach, we streamlined our physiotherapy treatment services to help our patients correct their human movement errors, improve their well-being and health, learn injury prevention, and adopt healthy habits all at once.
Finding each individual’s center of gravity is in relation to their Balance Control Centre is key to understanding each person’s unique way of maintaining good balance.
Each joint functions best at the central part of the available range of motion, the further the deviation from the central alignment, the further the strain on the surrounding structures.
Myofascial flexibility and joint mobility affects our ability to reach and exert effort when attempting various tasks
Training our minds to recognise neglected muscles so that we use them in our daily lives. If such muscles get ignored by our brains, their neglect causes a break of energy links in the body, resulting in poor performance.
Our postural control muscles and power generation muscles must work in sync in order to exert effort efficiently in functional movements.
Many of us are engaged in tasks that have specific demands on the body—such as in sports or dance. Such persons must know the muscular demands of these tasks well, so that the body can be optimised to perform such tasks well.
Over the years, we have treated patients that presented with a plethora of conditions and unfortunately have also observed a persistent issue with present health care practices.
Most of the standard treatments for physiotherapy in Singapore and many other countries are focused on solving the immediate symptoms and injuries. Little effort has been spent on identifying addressing the underlying root causes.
This has led to suboptimal outcome for chronic injuries or pain management.
Our founder, Mr Yan Yong (Michael), conceptualised the BalanceCore Approach of human function derived from the best practices of Chinese Medicine and the hard sciences of Western Medicine. Having grown up in China and studied Physiotherapy in Singapore and Australia, he has consolidated years of clinical experience to create the BalanceCore Approach.
We have been consistently helping thousands of patients recover from chronic injuries and body aches, and live a pain-free life.
